It is NOT okay to be obese.
Before anyone rages at me, let me explain.
I understand that not everyone is going to be ideally thin, it is okay to be a bit above weight, there is nothing wrong with that. But when it comes to the point where it is legitimately obesity, it is not okay. The idea here on tumblr is that all shapes and sizes are beautiful and you’re all perfect. I get why this is said, and I understand and love that a majority of tumblr is supporting strangers around the world and helping them love themselves. That is okay and I agree with that, but what I don’t agree with is telling OBESE people that they are perfect just the way they are. Obesity is a serious problem and it is not okay to sit back and act like everything is okay with being obese because it’s not. I’m not coming from an aesthetic viewpoint on this either, I’m coming from a medical viewpoint. It is not healthy to be obese and it’s not okay to act like everything is fine, because it’s not.

This, exactly. Being obese is unhealthy, but that doesn’t mean you should go around calling obese people landwhales or assume they have poor moral standards due to their weight. People become obese for many reasons, and not all of those are necessarily their fault. Some of them are even mostly outside of their own control, and those people deserve sympathy, not hate.

Someone said it.

Thank you. Obesity contributed to my mother’s death. If she would have taken better care of herself she might be here today. I’m totally about self love, but when it gets to the point that its causing you severe health problems, it’s time to act and fix the problem.

Self-love should be about loving your healthy self. If it’s not healthy, love yourself enough to try to get it there. I know it’s not always in your control. I know society makes it difficult. But please, take care of yourself first.

This is very, very true. My father was well over 400+lbs when he passed away. He suffered from high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and had severe venous ulcers that required me to help him dress and clean them several times a day for almost two years.
He died of an aortic dissection - his aortic valve in his heart split, and his filtered blood was getting mixed in with his unfiltered blood. If he had been even 100lbs lighter, the doctors could have performed an emergency surgery to save his life, but there was too much fat and tissue surround his heart to safely access it in time. He was 50.
I regret not making more of an effort to help him. I saw what his weight was doing to his body, and now it’s too late. Please, please be conscious of obesity. It can literally kill people. Don’t let things get so bad that it becomes impossible to fix. Everyone is beautiful, but being too overweight or too underweight is dangerous.

Okay so apparently that Gnome Child in all the slayer posts is actually a 4 year old Runescape NPC who has the mental capacity of a wise old philosopher and speaks about philosophy and the existence of god and such

I was trying to explain to my 5 year old stepsister that boy could wear nail polish if they wanted after she said that girls and boys weren’t allowed to do certain things.

"Anyone can wear nail polish if it makes them happy."
“even CATS????”

not what I was going for, but close enough.

Gandhi has been historically the most aggressive character in Civilization due to an original bug in the first game that caused him to go all-out once he reaches democracy. They just kept the thing going ever since.

To further explain this bug, because I was chatting with mothmonarch about Civilization and other strategy games last night and I never got around to explaining this fully, but I love this story:
Gandhi’s AI in the original game had its aggression set to the absolute minimum (0 on a scale of 0 to 10, I believe, I may have this wrong but the basic idea I’m about to explain is accurate, as far as I can tell). Adopting democracy lowers an AI civ’s aggression by 2 points, so when someone who is fully peaceful loses two points of aggression, they should still be nice and polite, right?
Except this is an old DOS game, and so computer math is in place. What actually happened was that Gandhi’s aggression level ticked backwards two steps, from 0 to 255. On a scale of 0 to 10, Gandhi is now 255 points of pure nuclear rage.
And that’s the story as I recall it, but again I may have gotten some details wrong, so feel free to correct me! After that, as the original poster said, the devs loved the bug so much that they just kept it in as a running joke!

“On a scale of 0 to 10, Gandhi is now 255 points of pure nuclear rage.”I about pissed myself laughing at this.
